The Nguni people are a group of Bantu people who primarily speak Nguni languages and live mainly in Southern Africa. The group of closely related Bantu languages include Xhosa, Zulu, Swazi and Ndebele.
The Nguni cattle breed is special to Southern Africa. With their variously patterned and multicoloured hides, these animals play an important role in the lives of the Nguni people.
NGUNI LIFESTYLE APPAREL is inspired by these majestic animals and the culture of the Nguni people and rural South Africa.

OUR STORY
We began our journey in 2016 after a decade in the apparel industry, designing, sourcing and manufacturing.
NGUNI LIFESTYLE APPAREL, the brand, was created initially as a design project that encompassed our shared passions for our country, our beautiful landscapes and diverse people, and grew organically as a response to a lack of high quality South African apparel that is both contemporary yet honours our local heritage and celebrates design in a way that is unpretentious yet modern.
The brand is directed by partners Thoko and Anja and is a reflection of their rural identities. The two founders hail from the majestic Drakensberg and beautiful Boland, and these areas emanate in everything from the colours we choose to the clean lines and combining practicality with design in every element we create.
We want to be a lifestyle brand, rather than just a clothing label. Looking beyond just fashion we are a brand that aims to find the perfect balance between style and functionality. Our mission is to produce locally and support small companies (like us), pay fair salaries for product production, doing as much in-house as possible. We are a brand that strives for authenticity, as we translate these values into our products.
